10 Steps for Healing and Releasing Migraines
I had migraines most of my life. Sometimes every day. Looking back, I don't know how I functioned at all. I am very grateful that I am free of them now. Here are some of the steps I took that might support you on your journey to being migraine free:
1. Practice relaxing the muscles of your face and neck daily. When you become familiar with the feeling of it you will be able relax when a migraine shows up.
2. Keep to a regular routine and get plenty of sleep.
3. Do not resist the migraines. We become hyper-vigilant in anticipating pain since acting quickly can be important to how bad the headaches get. This hyper state actually contributes to the migraines. Being fearful or stressed will not lessen the headache, so stay relaxed.
4. Practice moving your migraine. If it hurts on the left side try to move it to the right side or vice versa. This is very empowering. If you can move it, you can control or release it.
5. Place an icepack where your head hurts and a heat pack on your neck or shoulders. The ice will constrict blood vessels and the heat will draw blood flow to that area.
6. Putting Vicks Vapo Rub on your skin where you hurt sometimes helps.
7. Observe your thoughts. Many of my migraines were caused by negative or stressful thinking. Practice becoming aware of those thoughts and simply replace them with thoughts of someone you love or something you are grateful for. See a counselor or talk to a spiritual coach if you think it will help.
8. Download your problems onto paper and then visualize letting them go. You might actually create a ceremony around this.
9. Create a visualization of your migraine being healed. Some people imagine white light and others visualize the headache being released through their breath. Make up your own.
10. Free form writing - ask your migraines what they are trying to tell you.
I wish you the best for your journey toward healing.
